FIMBER BRAVO (TRINIDAD)

MAIN STAGE – Sunday, 16th July

Hailing from Trinidad, Fimber Bravo is one of the most influential exponents of steel pan in contemporary music. Bravo has been a leading figure in the movement to change the global image of steel pan since the 1970’s.

Fimber Bravo was a member of the 20th Century Steel Band, whose record “Heaven & Hell” became a hip-hop touch stone, name checked and sampled by Grandmaster Flash, Doug E Fresh, Soul II Soul, J-Lo and many more amongst the hip hop fraternity.

Internationally renowned Bravo has also loaned his talents to an astonishing array of artists, from Winifred Atwell Morcheeba, Blur right through to Sun Ra Arkestra, Mikey Moonlight and Hot Chip. In the 80’s he was Musical Director of Steel n’ Skin, who’s music was re-issued by EM Records (Japan) and Honest Jons (UK).

Fimber Bravo’s last album CON-FUSION (co-produced with Mikey Moonlight, Optimo and Hot Chip, released by Moshi Moshi) won widespread acclaim and was selected as one of Rough Trade’s Albums of the Year.

His latest album, LUNAR TREDD features chilled collaborations with the likes of Hot Chip’s Alexis Taylor, Susumu Mukai and The Horror’s Tom Furse plus fuzz electro workouts with top beat heads such as Joe Goddard from Two Bears.

My friend the Trinidadian Steel Pan maestro Fimber Bravo has made a great new album with contributions from Joe and myself from Hot Chip, Zongamin, the Horrors and many others. The last album Con-Fusion had amazing reviews and we played a lot of fun live shows from Womad to Glastonbury. It’s very upbeat dance music but with lots of different rhythms and influences from around the world.” Alexis Taylor, Hot Chip
